When ������ alumnus Eric Meek is not working in a glass art studio, one may find him on the small screen sharing his expertise in the new Netflix series called “Blown Away.”   The competition-based reality show features 10 highly skilled glass artists who compete to win the show’s prize, Best in Blow. Liz Maugans (BFA '89) studied printmaking and painting at ������ and during this time, she began her community building skills with other artists. After receiving her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, she began her trajectory as an artist and an advocate in Cleveland, making it the bustling arts community it is today. Maugans played an integral part in founding multiple organizations, exhibitions, and artist collectives in the area and has since passed the reigns on to others in the community.   Kent State’s Columbiana County campuses will welcome fans from both ends of the county for the inaugural Kent State Volleyball Classic on Monday, Oct. 7, as the Salem Quakers host the East Liverpool Potters. The competition begins at 5 p.m. with the freshmen team match-up, followed by the JV and varsity games. ������ has selected Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., to serve as interim vice president for student affairs, effective Sept. 16. Hylton has served as dean of students since coming to Kent State on June 1, 2017.   Hylton will lead Kent State’s Division of Student Affairs and institutional efforts aimed toward enhancing the engaged co-curricular lives of all Kent State students within the eight-campus system.   James Hideg was selected as 2019 Clinical Instructor of the Year by students and staff of the physical therapist assistant program at Kent State East Liverpool. A licensed physical therapist, he is the owner and president of University Sports Physical Therapy, located in Youngstown. As a clinical instructor, Hideg works with PTA students who are placed in the facility as part of their educational experience and training.
