When Christopher Thompson prepared for a horticulture internship in Ghana, he knew it would be an experience of a lifetime. What he never expected, however, was how that experience would be turned upside-down by a world-wide pandemic. Thompson is a recent graduate of the horticulture program on the Kent State Salem Campus, earning a Bachelor of Applied Horticulture degree this spring. He also holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in horticulture, with an urban forestry concentration, from the Salem Campus. While completing his degree requirements, Thompson understood that he needed to...
Scientists report that nearly 14,600 years ago marine-based regions of the Eurasian Ice Sheet melted rapidly, contributing to a major sea-level rise. Does this rapid collapse of massive ice give us clues as to the vulnerability of Earth鈥檚 remaining ice sheets? Joseph D. Ortiz, Ph.D., professor and assistant chair in the College of Arts and Sciences鈥 Department of Geology at 黑料网, recently authored a 鈥淣ews and Views鈥 article in Nature Geoscience that discusses research carried out by another research team that reassessed the melt history and timing of the collapse of the Eur...
When joining Kent State鈥檚 social media team in January, I was unsure of what to expect. As a sophomore, I was immediately a little scared knowing I was the youngest on the team, but I was confident that I would be able to fit in. Luckily one of my best friends, Allie, was also joining the team. This made me feel at ease and more comfortable with adjusting to my first on-campus job as a student. Although face-to-face operations were unfortunately cut short this semester, my experience has been anything but boring. It鈥檚 only been a few months, but I鈥檝e made some awesome memories and gaine...
Before I decided to attend Kent State in summer 2016, I weighed the pros and cons of attending a larger state school in Ohio instead of staying closer to home in Buffalo, New York and attending a smaller school. The one thing I did know: I was passionate about sports and I wanted that to be a part of my future. Being from Buffalo, I will always support my hometown Bills and Sabres. But there鈥檚 no NBA team in Buffalo, so as long as I can remember (and as long as Lebron James has been in the NBA) I鈥檝e been a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The summer of 2016 was a special time for North...
As my senior year of undergrad comes to an end, I have spent some time reflecting on my college experience and memories at Kent State. One of the highlights of my time at Kent State has been the opportunity to be part of the social media team. Over the past year, I have worked as a social media assistant in Kent State鈥檚 University Communications and Marketing (UCM) department. From covering basketball games to producing short videos, there is always something exciting going on with the social team. Not only have I had a lot of fun with this job, but I have also learned a lot from this positi...
When I was offered a position to work as a Social Media Assistant for 黑料网, I was beyond excited because of my growing interest in social media marketing. From day one, I was able to learn about the daily responsibilities and projects that the social media department prioritizes. I quickly discovered how big of a role social media plays for a large organization such as Kent State, especially during times when online communication becomes so crucial. I wasn鈥檛 entirely sure of what to expect when I started this role in the beginning of the semester. Initially, I assumed that ...
