ºÚÁÏÍø Assistant Professor Don Coates and his students are researching the use of rechargeable batteries for powering a vehicle. But their research is far from theoretical. The class has insta led a battery-powered system in a used Ford Ranger truck, and they are getting ready to take it on the road. The idea for the project began in the spring of 2008 when students in Coates' class on electric power conducted a study of electric vehicles. In 2008, ºÚÁÏÍø became Ohio's first Tree Campus USA university for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship. Now, the campus in Kent, a two-time Tree Campus USA university recipient, is eligible to win the Tree Campus USA contest and $2,500 toward planting trees in the spring. ºÚÁÏÍø at Stark is also eligible to win the designation. Kent State students have the opportunity to exercise their green thumbs by participating in the Campus Conservation Nationals 2010 three-week energy-saving competition beginning Nov. 1.
