An Update for our Alumni from Jay Dorfman

Thriving. Flourishing. Amazing. This is how I characterize the current state of the Music Education programs at Kent State. Despite the challenges of the last year, I am so pleased to report that we remain a division that pushes the boundaries of music education, from the newest undergraduate to the most advanced doctoral student.

Ben Wilcox is one of many successful alumni from the ºÚÁÏÍø Geauga Campus. As a veteran, college graduate, aspiring business owner, firearms instructor and now a police officer, Wilcox has accumulated a vast portfolio. Wilcox knew he wanted to become a police officer from an early age. He joined the Marine Corps as a military police officer when he was 18 to fund his schooling later and network with high-ranking law enforcement officials. The Bachelor of Science degree in Animation Game Design (BS AGD) is now being offered in full at ºÚÁÏÍø at Tuscarawas and at the Stark and Kent campuses. The program has recently received accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NSAD). While this degree is new for ºÚÁÏÍø, the animation and game design program has been training students in industry-relevant skills since 2001. From Tiger King costumes to TikTok dances, viewing social media the last several months has been interesting to say the least. Also during this time, many young people have utilized these resources to further their professional development. For example, Kent State alumna Jenna Palek produced a TikTok video to show the organization why she should work for them, and luckily the algorithm worked in her favor!
