Ferrell, Jessica M.
We investigate how obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome affect the liver-gut-brain axis. We focus our studies on bile acid physiology and receptor signaling within the context of alcoholic and metabolic liver disease.
Young, Jesse
We investigate gait, locomotor biomechanics, and motor development in primates and other mammals.
Wenstrup, Jeffrey
We investigate mechanisms by which emotional brain centers such as the amygdala interact with the auditory system to establish the meaning of speech and other social vocalizations. We seek to relate these mechanisms to acoustic communication behavior and to disorders resulting in altered emotional responses to speech.
Dana, Hod
We investigate and develop new methods and tools to record neurons in the brain using nonlinear microscopy and protein sensors. Our goals are to better understand the role of brain circuits and the efficacy of novel neuroprotective treatments in rodent models of neurodegenerative and neurological conditions.
Piontkivska, Helen
We are a bioinformatics lab, studying patterns of RNA editing in the context of host-pathogen interactions, and how RNA editing changes in brain health and disease. We currently focus on the role of ADAR editing changes in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer diseases, and mental health disorders.
Caldwell, Heather
We investigate how the neuropeptides oxytocin and vasopressin contribute to the neural regulation of behavior.
