After a year of renovations, Taylor Hall will reopen for classes on Monday, Aug. 28. The Schools of Communication Studies (COMM) and Visual Communication Design (VCD) share the space in the modernized, four-floor building. The May 4 Visitors Center also calls Taylor Hall home and will reopen with normal hours on Sept. 5. The School of Digital Sciences (DSCI), which joined the College of Communication and Information (CCI) in July, will spend the 2017-2018 academic year in Taylor Hall, as well. Dave Kraft moved from his home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to McDowell Hall to begin his freshman year at in 1987. On Thursday, he celebrated the 30th anniversary of his move, by moving his daughter, Mackenzie Kraft, from their home in Pittsburgh into her room in Fletcher Hall to begin her freshman year. “We didn’t have refrigerators; we didn’t have microwaves,” Kraft said, noting the changes to the residence hall rooms from 30 years ago. Kelvin Mancebo dreams of the day when he is an air traffic controller. As a senior at , Mancebo is majoring in aeronautics with a minor in aircraft dispatch. The grand opening of ’s new Integrated Sciences Building will be held Sept. 15 from 2:30-5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. More than 500 volunteers are preparing to welcome incoming freshmen to the Kent Campus tomorrow morning. Move-in day starts at 8 a.m. and runs through 7 p.m. Incoming freshman and their parents will have the opportunity to meet Kent State President Beverly Warren and the university cabinet members outside Eastway Center beginning at 9 a.m. Each year, volunteers with Movers and Groovers help students carry belongings to their new residence halls.
