This fall semester, Kent State is privileged to welcome seven international students to its campus, all of which are friends from Nepal: Anit Kunwar, Saroj Dahal, Man Bahadur Kshetri, Swastik Shrestha, Bishal Pokhrel, Mahesh Gaire, and Salan Gahaju. Being close friends while living in Nepal, the seven still find it extraordinary that they all decided to choose Kent State as their academic destination this fall. Communication Studies majors Eunice Reyes, junior, and Juleanna Smith, senior, will host a panel discussion titled, “Redefining 'Refugee': Stories from a Global Crisis” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15 in Rm. 340 Franklin Hall (FirstEnergy Auditorium).   Panelists will discuss how the global refugee crisis impacts Kent State students and people around the world. Dear Members of the Community: As Northeast Ohio continues to enjoy a beautiful fall season, we all know that winter will soon arrive. One of our roles as university leaders is recommending cancellations and closures due to severe weather. While the safety of our people is our priority, in general the university does not close or cancel classes because of cold weather, winter ice and/or snow. The Area Agency on Aging 11 recently donated books and money to the East Liverpool Campus’s Seasons Readings project. The donation included 364 children’s books and $650 that will be used to purchase additional books, which will be distributed to youngsters along the parade route of the East Liverpool Christmas parade in early December. Former  quarterback Julian Edelman releases a new memoir.

New England Patriots wide receiver and former quarterback Julian Edelman released a new memoir, Relentless, on Tuesday, Oct. 24. The memoir is described as “the inspiring story of an underdog kid who was always doubted to becoming one of the most reliable and inspiring players in the NFL.” Co-authored with Tom Curran, the book shares Mr. Edelman’s journey as a young football player at the Pop Warner football program in California, a three-year starting quarterback at Kent State from 2006-2008 and his impressive career with the Patriots.
