“The Year 7 experience is one of the most important phases in teenagers lives today. The journey begins with hurdles and struggles, before the eventual transition to confidence, resilience and personal success.

Students step into a much larger world, where they must test and apply their knowledge and experiences. In doing so, they soon realise there’s a disconnect between their sense of ‘what should be’ and ‘what is’. Everything becomes new. From how a typical day runs, to the social and  challenges that emerge, reflecting the demands of a world beyond their comfort zone. Over the year, our students demonstrated confidence in advocating for themselves and rose to the demands put on them.

From adapting to new Homeroom groups to undertaking new subjects and opportunities, our Year 7s have adapted to the greater standards of College. They’ve taken risks in new fields such as STEM and Science and taken more accountability for their own learning.

They’ve embraced extracurricular experiences, participating in our College productions, competing in Swimming, Athletics, Soccer and Footy – and everything in between. They’ve demonstrated Student Leadership, created opportunities for their peers, and showcased their problem-solving skills alongside the brightest young minds in Victoria via the DaVinci Decathlon.

Thank you to our Year 7s for your positive contributions to the College. We can’t wait to see what opportunities you create next!”

Transitioning from Primary to Secondary School

“My transition to Year 7 from Primary School to has been an amazing journey. Throughout the year, I’ve enjoyed the kind and caring community, and work environment. Everyone has been extremely supportive and welcoming, especially my amazing Homeroom Teacher and Year Level Coordinator. It’s a privilege to be a member of the St Bede’s community.

On our first day, we were taken to our allocated homeroom, and sat down with our fellow classmates. Based on my initial meeting with them, I was confident I would be creating lifelong friendships. Our homeroom teacher talked to us about what we should expect throughout the year.

I must admit, I was a little nervous to begin, but the friendliness of the teachers and students made it so much easier to settle into Secondary school. Throughout our first day, we met each subject teacher, which was one of the biggest changes – because in Primary school we only had one or two teachers for the whole year. Despite the adjustment, their infectious and kind personalities made me feel comfortable with the changes.

Another fun part was the renowned Indoor Soccer Tournament. The tournament brought the all the classes together and created tighter camaraderie between the homerooms.

My transition to Year 7 has been phenomenal. A massive thanks goes to the amazing staff, friendly students and the pristine facilities we have access to.” Michael P – Year 7
